Introduction
The HTC Hero phone is the eastern technology company’s third handset fuelled by Google’s Android mobile phone OS, and the premier to pack its revolutionary Sense user interface, leaving Android a fresh lick of paint. On top of the fresh software, there’s a 3.2in touchscreen, Megapixel digital camera~5MP camera, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS, digital compass~digital compass, Wi-Fi, GPS, HSDPA, 5Megapixel camera} and a MicroSD memory card expansion slot to add storage.
What Is Good
It’s just been a hardly a couple months since the HTC Magic, but the spring onward HTC’s made in the interim is tremendous. That’s due to the new Sense UI on top of Android OS. HTC’s shoved in loads more widgets to organize on your home screen - of which there are now several, so you can slip between work and play, and even have your Twitter notifications flowing through. The capacitive touchscreen on the Hero in the meantime is an absolute delight to use, and typing in either orientation is accessible thanks to auto-correction for most frequently utilized words. On the exterior, the HTC Hero’s teflon coating is almost fully fingermark proof, the electric battery goes the day and building on the Magic, there’s general 3.5mm audio for your own headphones. Huzzah!
What I Dont Like
As cute as the Hero appears, HTC could still make improvements to the hardware a bit more. The camera lacks a flash, the trackball feels tacky, and that lip on the bottom juts out. While it feels nice in the hand, it’s a real hurt in your pocket. The Sense UIinterface in the meantime fixes a lot of issues with Android Operating system, but video is still Android’s weak part. For a mobile touting Flash integration, movie playback in several file type is concerningly jerky, and codec support somewhat bounded compared to Nokia top of the range mobiles or even fresher Blacberrys.
The bottom line
With the HTC Hero, Android has eventually come of age. It’s near the complete smartphone bundle now, helped no end by HTC’s interface and strong and lustful design stuffed with great hardware. Apple iPhone, if you’re listening, after two years, you’ve got a proper competitor at last.
