There is no doubt for those who own an iPhone, the apps and features abound. But now, Motorola and Verizon Wireless are about to unleash the new Droid, which could challenge the iPhone for the top spot in technological advance phones.
This phone is due to be realeased in Mid November, but already articles and videos are popping up everywhere and there is a lot of hype about this feature packed phone.
Not only will the Motorola Droid have a reasonable price tag of about $200.00, the features include a 5mp camera, the ability to take, store and play video, access to over 10,000 apps with more being added on an ongoing basis, of course a music player, storage for photos and a super fast internet connection along with a USB port.
With this phone, you won’t have any problems using Google or any of the Google features plus you get access to YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, along with email access, games, sports, travel and more. There is a full Qwerty keyboard and a turn by turn navigation system which is very easy to view on the 3.7″ screen.
The basic structure of the phone is made up of two main pieces, the large, glass display up top, and the slightly longer keyboard or main-board lower half. Above, the 3.7-inch screen is amazing, almost filling the space edge-to-edge, though there are four buttons at the bottom of the display: back, menu, home, and search.
The top section slides smoothly upwards to reveal the QWERTY keyboard which requires a little bit of force to move up, then clicks firmly in place. The keyboard is a wide with minimal amount of spacing between the keys. To the right of the keyboard is a 5-way rocker and the bottom piece has a strip which juts out from the device with a small mic hole.
At the top of the phone is a 3.5mm headphone jack and a power / sleep button; along the right edge is a volume rocker, and camera button on opposite ends; the left side houses a MicroUSB port; around back the 5 megapixel camera (and flash) are revealed, along with a thin, gold, crosshatch strip that hides the DROID’s speaker.
Only time will tell exactly how many features it will actually offer, but it sounds like Motorola and Verizon Wireless are going to be in competition with the iPhone. The iPhone bosts over 40,000,000 users world wide and offers over 50,000 apps. So, the Droid does have it’s work cut out to match the success of the iPhone. With the Google advantage, and some time, the Droid from Verizon Wireless will be the phone to watch.
